Montecristo Cigars. The world's most famous of the many famous Havana brands started in 1935 as a new brand from Menendez, Garcia y Cia., then the owners of the H. Upmann brand. Originating in Cuba, Montecristo Cigars is now distributed in the U.S. and manufactured by hand in the Dominican Republic. The Montecristo Cigars Dominican version debuted in the United States in 1995, during the peak of the cigar boom.
